Located on the Rieteiland-Oost island in the IJburg residential development, this family villa impresses through beauty achieved with simple means and shapes, which, when combined with taste and style result in a unique composition outlining serene living.
A house is not a home. A home is made for a family, having in mind every activity involved in the process of living. It must accommodate the needs of the inhabitants and should be made for their comfort and well being. A project that impresses and offers an intriguing picture but doesn’t comply with the function attributed then it is meaningless and doesn’t represent an architectural object.
The design proposed by Egeon Architecten is a simple but interesting example of how a residential project should be handled. There are three levels made to accommodate the open plan living room of the ground floor, the private areas are located on the first level having an office and study space situated on the second level to offer the best studying space possible, away from noise and other activities. Even though the material most utilized, wood, creates a most welcoming and friendly interior, the most inviting room in the house is the living room. Fitted with large sliding doors, it offers the maximum amount of natural light and creates a connection between the house’s interior and the nature surrounding it. The lake views help achieving a state of calm, protection and freedom at the same time.
Description from the architects:
„To the traditional arrangement of living on the ground floor and sleeping on the upper floors a floor is added for working from home. The ground floor has a glass facade with large sliding doors on the garden side, so that the residents can benefit most from the view. The bedroom floor is more open to the inside, the outside more closed. The floor with the office an consultation room has views all-around. Open / closed / open.
The timber frame house is built from fair and sustainable materials, has a heat pump and low temperature underfloor heating, natural ventilation, high insulation values of roof walls and floor, special heat-resistant glass, a sedum roof, attention to thermal bridging details and orientation. As a result, low level energy consumption realized”.
Homesthetics conclusion:
The exterior wood cover makes the building look a bit traditional in design and allows to integrate in the landscape.
