Nowadays every restaurant tries to stand out from the crowd with a different apparel, most of the time the designers are making the mistake of being too out there and creating highly controversial spaces that have nothing to do with the cuisine or culture. Therefore we have restaurants with industrial apparel, colorful eccentric accents, mirrors and so on. Today we are trying to present a unique interior that manages to combine two very different cuisines, a simple, minimalist one and a very unique exuberant one, full of organic feel and density; both apparels have highly controversial and quite antagonistic ,yet here are assembled together in a powerful mixture, a controversial one as you would expect.
Being a restaurant, the mixture of styles is felt not only in the design, that would be a shallow and cheap approach, you can feel the scent the fusion of tastes welded up in here :
“… two cultures that seem so antagonistic: quiet and minimalist the first, exuberant and bustling the second. One of the biggest conceptual challenges during the design of the restaurant was finding shared singularities between these two cultures. Being a great challenge, it also became the leitmotif of the project, as we discovered that the landscape was an extremely important element in both cultures, and we decided to extol this element in the design of the space and create an artificial landscape…”
Therefore, the design of Japan and Brazil have been mixed up in this highly controversial space; at the ground floor the furniture is clean, smooth, minimalist, the circulation passages of the waiters are solved perfectly with the help of these isles in which the guests are dinning; within the isles the tables are colorful, cheerful, yet again simple, highlighting the presence of the Brazilian cuisine.
The connection between the two, as stated above, resides after all in the relation to the nature and, as a result, the materials are expressing unchained warmth and an “uncontrolled” natural wooden stripes structure that reminds of the growth of both cultures and the natural way of evolution. This unique breathtaking space was realized by El Equipo Creativo, they`ve designed a unique retreat within a huge city, a retreat in which supposedly you can find calm and peace and forget for a short time that you have anything at all to do.
What impressed me was the premise. It`s unique and doable as the architects have proven. The result is great, the functionality seems perfect, a little crowded but otherwise amazing. The apparel overall, the whole design though does not seem to work, even if they do have an explanation for everything, a back story; the ceiling still seems from another story, so is the furniture and the treatment of the windows. It`s a shame because the atmosphere is clearly the right one, the light filters and ambiance are having the desired effect, but the design just contradicts it. It seems like you can never decide on your state of mind, the elements are great alone but a mess combined, there should have been a slight transition between them, or so it seems.
