Being the result of transforming a former attic space into a beautiful contemporary 2,368 square-foot home, the Rounded Loft designed by Prague-based studioA1 Architects brings a fresh, new approach. Keeping the private spaces intimate, such as bedrooms, they have managed to create a fluent space connecting all the rest of the rooms and transforming it into a unity. In order to continue the intentions of fluidity, every corner was rounded off, giving the interior a smooth characteristic, breaking the boundaries and dissolving the edges.“The issue of “boundless“ space became the main motif of our work.” The staircase that connects the different spaces of the loft has an integrated fireplace and a library climbing along with it in a also round shape. To protect you from falling and give a sense of security, the railing is made out of a steel net, transparent but safe.
An essential part of the project is the usage of materials and colors. Trying to keep the elements natural and pure, the architects used grey stone, white walls and wood flooring. The structure of the former attic is exposed, bringing warmth to the ice white of the interiors. The furniture is being kept into a clear, minimalist line, with few elements in neutral tones, the only accent of the space being a Foosball table that adds a funny twist to the serious but elegant atmosphere.
