Owning a swimming pool has always been considered as being a sign of wealth and richness. And to be honest, when the end of the month comes and you see those figures on the energy bill, you definitely wish you did not own that big swimming pool. Water filtering, heating, the running pump, maintenance, all cost a lot of money not to mention it is not so environmentally friendly. But there are always methods of reducing the energy bill and preserve earth’s resources by just applying some basic simple principles.
Alternative sources of water can be used in order to preserve it. Consider collecting rain water for the usage of the pool, garden watering, as well for indoor utilization in plumbing for kitchen, bathroom etc. It’s easy method of staying green and cutting down on the water bill at the end of the month. Another idea is recycling through filters the waste water from your home. Although the initial costs might seem high, in time it can prove as being an efficient investment.
Heating the water is another problem homeowners have to face. But depending on your geographic position and climate you may be able to get away with no heating at all. Otherwise, consider using solar panels to capture the energy not only for your pool, but for the entire home as well. But be careful, solar panels can become dangerous if the climatic conditions are not properly taken into consideration and can become overheated and lead even to explosions.
Another annoying problem is cleaning. In order to keep it hygienic, the swimming pool must be cleaned with chlorine which can be harmful to the environment. Try finding some alternatives that are ozone friendly and cut down on the electric devices that are meant to keep the water cool. In fact, try and cover the pool when it is not utilized in order to keep leaves and dust away from the water. Also keep synthetic toys away from kid’s reach and from the pool all together. They are made from polyvinyl chloride which release toxins in the water and are harmful to you and your family.
Of course all these methods don’t overcome the costs of designing and building a swimming pool in the first place but if you already have one, why not try to be a little more green and preserve earth’s resources while preserving some of your own resources as well.
