You can make this project with the entire family, it will definitely be an experience that you will all remember.
Materials needed in the DIY concrete mushrooms project:
-concrete mix of any kind
-a small bowl recipient
First of all prepare your working place. Cover everything in old newspapers or plastic wraps to prevent a mess and work less in the cleaning process. Next, create the concrete mix and make sure that the mixture is stiff enough to stand up on its own. The amount of concrete mixture depends on how many mushrooms you plan to materialize, start slow though, the first two three mushrooms should come from different concrete mixtures, experiment to ensure a quality end result. It is recommended to create the mold of the mushroom stem on a piece of plastic wrap as showcased below.
Let the stem you’ve built dry out properly before moving one. You can create more stems while waiting.
Simply fill the bowl or recipient prepared with some damp sand and cover it in plastic wrap
Use your hand as an artist or by taking an item that resembles the cap of a mushroom, imprint in the sand on the top of the plastic wrap, try to make it look as natural as possible, your mushrooms will all be different either way, that is an amazing thing in a project.
For the mushroom cap make a softer concrete mixture and slowly pour the mixture in the mold prepared previously. As you can see showcased below, a notable amount of water has been introduced into the concrete. Do not worry about the margins of the cap, you can chip off any unwanted margins after the piece dries out.
Now simply insert the dry stem prepared earlier into the wet concrete, as showcased below. Simply keep the stem there for a 30 seconds and it should remain in place. Simply hold it with a gentle pressure, your work will be rewarded by the end result.
Showcase below we have a mushroom after sufficient drying time. Small, natural, organic and sturdy. Enjoy!
Get creative and start painting away, experiment with super glossy paint for a shiny extraordinary look, spray them with varnish after you’ve painted and use vibrant colors to ensure the eye popping effect.
