Chinese multimedia artist Ji Zhou has created the ‘Civilized Landscape’ series, a take on the idea of 3d Maps Sculpted from stacks of books and paper.By taking actual maps, Ji Zhou folds and molds them into actual landscape for a better perception and understanding of the natural environment, a delicate form of art and an incredible attention to details and focus.
“Ji Zhou’s quiet observation of contemporary society is reflected in his object-based works, often rendered in photography or sculpture. […] Through this illustration of the world, Ji Zhou probes the use of human culture to understand and build the world that surrounds us.”
By stacking piles of books, the artist reproduces 3 dimensional city maps in order to obtain a better perception of the urban scale of the built tissue.
