“Level” Shelving Unit Inspired by The Principle of Communicating Vessels

The only way you can stand out today is by thinking outside the box. Therefore thousands of concepts are being launched everyday, at least on paper.

So today we have a concept design inspired by something that we all have learned somewhere in the 4th grade and which has been smartly materiallized into a dynamic and unique shape by the Barcelona based designer Roger Moliné. The concept it`s easy and useful enough to match many interiors, it has a strong reference to the the principle of communicating vessels in which the equilibrium is obtained when the liquid between these vessels is proportionally split to create the same mass on all vessels that are linked.

“Level, is born from a clear reference in the world of hydraulic engineering; communicating vessels. These are a series of vessels containing a homogeneous liquid. Thanks to the communication between vessels, the fluid moves until reaching an equilibrium level, irrespective of the inclination or orientation of the glasses.”

While the textile part gives the product a fragile feel it gives it a sensible part as well, which communicates elegantly with the warmth of the wood and the light apparel. The whole mechanism is composed by two major elements; the first element would be the pivot which is meant to get grip on any kind of surface and to generate rotation for the fabric when is needed. The second element is the canvas acrylic which as stated above it`s the fragile and sensible part, thanks to it`s stiffness though it can hold pretty much everything that you would want yo put on such a shelve.

Homesthetics Conclusion

We are encouraging such concepts because they benefit all parties in today`s society. We do question one thing though on this concept: that thing is the practicality, because you definitely can not rely on such a shelve to keep a flower on it as in the photo presentation, but you can rely on it for books, CD/DVD cases or vinyls, and with that in mind you have to think from the early begging with what you are going to use it in order to fit your interior and not look dull.
We are also wondering if you can get this in a variety of colors and if you, personally, would like to paint the acrylic fabric at home in order to get a more personal item for your interior, I would .
