Today we have a building featuring one of the most interesting façades that we have ever seen, a façade inspired by nature, inspired by the trees. This particular building is called the Denial Building and is realized by Reza Sayadian and Sara Kalantary. It is entitled this way because, supposedly, is a statement for the trees that have been replaced by buildings in that particular area of Teheran.
The green spaces around us are going extinct world wide, more and more forests and parks are being replaced with buildings, agriculture, wild habitats being defined now by our limits and not theirs. This “small” building of just 1.344 square meters supposedly has a substance, warning people with the façade that something must be done. The panels used on the façade are actually much more then a story, they have a far more important architectural role, they`re meant to provide intimacy, different light levels and shadows within the apartments;the shapes of the panels can be moved around and rearranged to create the impeccable atmosphere that one would need.
So behind the façade we will find no less then 5 residential apartments, on no less then 1.344 square meters as previously stated, imagine now how small this 5 apartments are, and how much they care about the environment. We do realize that the architect`s position is very rough in such projects, yet the premises are way to symbolic for such a pragmatic project behind the actual “façade”.
The triangle abstract motif takes different shapes and sizes further on behind the façade, being brought to the interior step by step, gradually starting with the mirrors used in the lobby up to the small triangles arranged in the house to respect the overall theme. These shapes are materialized using different materials, including pieces of broken glass, stainless steels and many others “sustainable” materials.
The basement hosts different recreation facilities such as an indoor pool and sauna. The high end materials and unique design are definitely providing the building a huge accent of unicity and identity, we have here a huge showcase of luxury hidden behind a façade that is meant to have a sustainable attitude towards the environment, through words and symbolism.
While we do highly appreciate the amazing looks, the idea and even the spaces and lightning created by the amazing façade we hate the fact that the building does not have an honest attitude towards the surroundings and de-simulates her real substance, such texts and titles are in reality meant to inspire blind people and look good in press releases.
We find this building highly controversial, and we apologize if with the little information that we have we managed to mistreat the building and distort it`s image, reason for which we would love to hear you opinion on this one.
