Obtain all the required materials specified above and consider using vintage books or some old sheet music paper source with which you can on first rose. We have find these extremely rewardful, beautiful and with a more dramatic, personal look. The paper sources are also flexible enough to make these a top choice. Make sure that the paper used is still in a decent shape and that you can curl it with your fingers with ease. You can find the wire at any hardware store, sometimes under the name of “annealed coil wire” or “black wire”. Take not that is important to use a low temp hot glue mainly because this will offer feedback from the first petal attached.
Shaping and Cutting. You should dimension at least 5 or 6 different sizes of petals to give the rose more volume, in the example the petals are ranging from about ¾ inch wide to 3 inches wide but the dimensions are irrelevant to your end product, maybe you’ll enter the Guinness Record Book with the most extraordinary Recycled DIY Paper Rose in the world. Who stops you?
You can easily freehand cut them if you are on the first rose, this will ensure an organic shape and authenticity to your end product. If you plan to decorate with hundreds DIY paper roses a wedding, consider using a laser cutter to help you with the cutting. Each flowers requires 4 petals of each size. Always make more than you need and try to improve your result constantly.
Forging with shape. Indirectly, this is the most relevant step for the end result, basically the more natural the petal is, the more natural, organic and soft looking the flower will be. So pay attention and study a few natural petals, try to make them as round as possible and shape all the petals before starting to glue anything. In this manner you will if they actually work in ensemble, through shape, scale and proportions.
Start the actual item by rolling the center. With caution cut one more shape for each flower and use this one for the coiled center of the flower. The tip should be rounded we think. Roll it up in a tube to create a smooth clean volume. After you are satisfied with the result just unroll it and run a bead of hot glue in the interior and re-roll it. You can also put a dot of glue on the exterior to hold into place.
Start to attach the petals, here you will see the actual progress and here the magic goes in. Start with your smallest petals ofcourse and use a single dot of glue at one quarter from the bottom of the petal to attach it to the stem created earlier. The next petal should naturally overlap and embrace the first. In this step try to think and envisioned the end result as you go, always slightly overlapping the last petal attached. By overlapping constantly bigger and bigger petals the flower will get much wider, much more beautiful and natural. Getting wider is the result of the glue used at the base as well and you should pay attention to how much you use and how you overlap these areas to avoid oversizing the flower with a small number of petals.
Wrapping it up and enjoying your work. If you plan to create sepals, these can be created out of paper or ribbon. These can and probably will cover the final seams giving the flower a more polished high end look. In the example two 4 inch lengths of ribbon have been used, simply wrap the stem and secure the undersides under the last petals.
