Located in Winchester, England on the Clifton Road, our Clifton View Mansion gained a glass extension that would emphasize its position and capture the amazing view over the city along with more natural light, all envisioned by AR Design Studio.
Using white stark interiors to enlarge the space and make it brighter, the interior gains new aesthetics values in neutral tones, touches of wood as accents granting some coziness and warmth within. The architects are further relating:
“An 1860s four storey terraced house in Winchester. The proposal was to create a frameless glass extension to the rear of the house providing excellent views over the city, and a basement excavation to the front of the house to provide an open kitchen space with utility and WC. The house required simplifying in its living arrangements and additional storage space enabled it to maintain a modern, clean appearance.”
We simply adore this kind of extensions, they`re a patch between old and new, they are here to renew the organic historic tissue and animate it, to refresh something old and emphasize it, to make it desirable and contemporary. This is just one point of view, there are a lot of critics talking about the damage provoked by such insertions and alteration of the original building, it`s a highly controversial subject and we would love to hear your opinion about it.
