1. Eufy RoboVac 11S
This model was included in the list of “Best robot vacuums of 2019” by Tom’s Guide, and it is still a popular choice today. RoboVac 11S by Eufy is an intelligent vacuum with long battery life. It can easily last for up to 100 minutes of uninterrupted cleaning.
- Included in the “Best robot vacuums of 2019” by Tom’s...
- All-New RoboVac: Re-engineered to be the slimmest* RoboVac...
Why Did We Like It?
To begin with, we appreciated the superior engineering that went into making this product. This is the slimmest RoboVac Eufy has created with a thickness of only 2.85 inches. The sleek design makes for a discreet and stylish vacuum.
When it comes to vacuuming difficult areas, its Boost IQ technology comes in handy. As the robot vacuum reaches a hard-to-clean spot, it automatically increases the suction power within 1.5 seconds. Due to this feature, cleaning all surfaces for the house, including hardwood floor and carpet, becomes effortless.
Another thing we want to highlight is how quiet it is while cleaning. Unlike regular vacuums, which are deafening, this one is quiet enough to sleep through. Imagine the low hum of a microwave; this vacuum doesn’t get louder than that.
Lastly, it avoids obstacles with infrared sensors and has drop-sensing technology to avoid falling down a staircase; thus, it rarely gets damaged.

What Could’ve Been Better?
We didn’t have any significant complaints about this lightweight robot vacuum, but we do have a few observations that might improve the user experience. When not in use, this product needs around 5 feet of space to dock quickly, and if there is any obstruction in front of the docking area, it will not be able to self-charge.
- Automatic recharge
- Anti-scratch glass top
- 12-month warranty
- Moderately priced
- Needs a spacious docking area
2. iRobot R694020
Next on this list, we have the R694020 model by iRobot. The vacuum comes with Lithium-ion batteries and a brush attachment. It also docks and charges automatically. If this model sounds like something you’d be interested in, read on for the details.
- INTELLIGENTLY WORKS AROUND YOUR LIFE - Take vacuuming off...
- 3-STAGE CLEANING POWER - The 3-Stage Cleaning system lifts...
Why Did We Like It?
The first thing we liked about this model was the 3-stage cleaning system which loosens, lifts and suctions. The brushes sweep the carpet, loosen the dust and debris, then bring it up to the surface, and immediately suck it into the machine.
Moreover, this model makes life easier by allowing you to schedule a cleanup session at your convenience. Just set a time through the dedicated app and remove cleaning off the to-do list. The Dirt-Detect sensors alert the robot vacuum of the dirtier areas of the house for rigorous cleaning.
Out of all the vacuums we tested, this option had one of the best navigation systems. It was intelligent enough to avoid furniture and household objects like shoes and also cleaned along the edges without falling off the stairs. Apart from this, it also flaunts its intelligence by learning your cleaning habits and recognizes your voice through Google Assistant or Alexa.

What Could’ve Been Better?
There was one flaw that left us wanting. The storage capacity is relatively small, and it sends an indicator to the app to inform you to throw out the debris. The problem arises when you have furry pets who shed a lot, and the storage gets full quickly.
- Smartphone app
- Cliff-Detect function
- Cleans carpet and hardwood floors
- Automatically recharges
- Small storage capacity
3. Shark RV101AE
If you are looking for a smart robot vacuum with a large debris storage capacity, the RV101AE model by Shark may be the one for you. This vacuum starts and stops automatically, doesn’t need instructions on where and what to clean, and memorizes the floor plan of the house.
- FORGET ABOUT VACUUMING FOR UP TO 45 DAYS: A bagless,...
- POWERFUL SUCTION: Deep-cleaning power to take on large...
Why Did We Like It?
When it comes to a robot vacuum, all we want is to turn it on and forget about it. Nobody likes the cumbersome process of charging it every hour, removing dirt and debris frequently, and removing it when it gets stuck. This product by Shark solves all of these issues.
There isn’t a need to carry the robot vacuum to the dock because it automatically positions itself there and recharges when it’s finished cleaning. As far as removing debris or pet hair is concerned, the vacuum can collect one month’s worth of dust, much like a mini dust bin.
What’s more, it doesn’t get stuck in one place or needs to be instructed on where to clean. The home mapping sensors in the machine allow it to remember the layout of the house, and you can schedule to clean any time you like. Additionally, it listens to voice commands from Alexa or Google for instructions.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 41GPQtWPYBS. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41GPQtWPYBS._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
While we liked most of its features, there was one slightly disappointing one. At the time of cleaning, the machine was way too loud for our liking. This was probably the only thing lacking with this product, especially when comparing it with other noiseless ones that were silent enough to sleep through.
- Large debris storage capacity
- No hair wrap
- Self recharge and resume
- Cleans complete room
- Louder vacuuming sound
4. Tesvor Robot Vacuum
The following product on our list is a robot vacuum by Tesvor. This self-charging device has a slim body which makes it easy to clean under couches or closets. Along with that, it also helps clean the house faster using clever cleaning patterns for floors of all sizes.
- 【POWERFUL SUCTION】 Adopt Innovative Supclean technology...
- 【VOICE & APP CONTROLS】 Works with Alexa & Google...
Why Did We Like It?
What we liked the most about this robot vacuum is the ultra-long running time at over 150 minutes of continuous cleaning. Its powerful 5200 mAh battery cleans the entire floor in one go without needing any breaks for charging.
Another feature worth noting is the innovative SupClean technology. The model is built with an incredibly high suction power of 4000 PA, which swiftly removes pet hair, dust, dirt, and even crumbs. Whether it’s a carpet or hardwood flooring, this small but mighty robot vacuum can clean it all.
Furthermore, when you tap to open the app, you will find a choice between four cleaning modes – quiet mode, normal mode, strong mode, and max mode. The silent mode can be used to avoid waking a sleeping baby or pet or for cleaning at night. The strong mode will help with deep cleaning, and the max mode will remove dog hair and large particles.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 41CZT+NlGOL. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41CZT+NlGOL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
We liked many things about this product – the long battery life, superior cleaning performance, and the companion app. However, this robot vacuum didn’t move effectively over medium pile carpet; thus, it had difficulty reaching all the corners of the room.
- Hassle-free cleaning
- 12-month warranty for defects
- Four adjustable cleaning modes
- Ultra-thin body
- Doesn’t climb on a slight elevation
5. ECOVACS DEEBOT 500
Another option we looked at was the Deebot 500 model by Ecovacs. This was one of the more affordable robot vacuums available on the market. Apart from having a good battery life, it also has protective bumpers, which improve its durability.
- READY FOR ANY MESS: Equipped with 2 side brushes and a main...
- VOICE & APP CONTROLS: Works with Alexa & Google Assistant...
Why Did We Like It?
Right off the bat, we liked the sturdy brushes of this robot vacuum. It has one main brush to loosen the grime and dust from the carpet and two side brushes to sweep corners of the room. This robotic vacuum has three modes for efficient cleaning. Auto mode cleans the entire floor, Spot mode focuses on a small area, and Edge mode cleans only the edges of the room.
It also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant so that you can give voice commands for cleaning. Using the Ecovacs app, you can directly control the robot vacuum, schedule cleaning timings, and select a cleaning mode.
What’s more, it is highly durable because of its protective bumpers and anti-scratch finish, so it looks new for longer. Another feature we liked was the large wheels for climbing thresholds. This is always useful to have because there is a lower chance of getting stuck while vacuuming.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 51BuBbQ2kXL. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51BuBbQ2kXL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
There were a few challenges while trying to connect the app to the device. It asked us to make various changes to the Wi-Fi setting before we were able to operate the robot vacuum using the app. Although this isn’t a big deal, some users may find it difficult to operate.
- Alexa, Google Assistant integration
- Quiet cleaning
- Auto charging feature
- Remote control, cleaning tools included
- Slightly difficult to operate
6. ILIFE V5s Pro
Another robotic vacuum we checked was the V5s Pro model by ILife. This compact device has a functional 2-in-1 design which enables you to switch between vacuum cleaning and mopping with water. It comes with a remote control to schedule cleaning at a specific time.
- Vacuuming sweeping damp mopping all in one, maintain...
- New powerful motor with max mode and pet hair technology...
Why Did We Like It?
Firstly, the 2-in-1 sweeping and mopping feature proved to be quite helpful for obtaining spotless floors in a short time. It has an intelligent control water tank that allows simultaneous mopping, and
the suction removes the dirt and water from the hardwood floors.
Speaking of the suction, the device has a unique suction inlet that removes larger debris like pet hair and food crumbs. This is why pet owners can benefit from this robotic vacuum. Apart from that, this product has an enhanced motor which cleans the floors without causing a racket.
Furthermore, this device comes with many accessories without any additional purchase. You get the vacuum, water tank, mop cloth, dustbin, remote control, batteries, and much more. Also, it’s a good option for endurance cleaning, lasting 110 minutes without a break. Lastly, it automatically docks and charges when the battery is low.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/411xZcvF7lS._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
This robotic vacuum was budget-friendly and worked well to clean hardwood floors. However, it didn’t have the most accurate sensors at times. It didn’t properly judge the edge of the floor and got stuck in a corner from which it had to be removed manually.
- Batteries included
- 12-month warranty
- Enhanced motor
- Self-charging
- Inaccurate motion sensors
7. Roborock E4
Next on the list is a robust robot vacuum cleaner for carpets. Roborock E4 has inbuilt navigation and motion tracking sensors that efficiently clean the entire floor plan without missing a spot. It can also be connected to Wi-Fi and voice assistants like Alexa and Google.
- It's a renewed product.The refurbished product has been...
- Effective Cleaning: 10% faster movement, intelligent...
Why Did We Like It?
Out of all the robot vacuums we tested, this one turned out to work better in larger rooms. This was essential because of its long-lasting battery and larger-than-average dustbin. Its 5200 mAh battery, when charged to 100%, can clean up to 2152 square feet area without breaks. As for the bin, it has a capacity of 640 ml, which stores more debris than the average robotic vacuum.
Apart from that, it has a powerful suction capacity of 2000 PA, which is enough to lift resistant dirt from the floor. Also, you can set it to Carpet Boost mode to activate deep cleaning. This is enhanced by motion tracking technology which ensures that the vacuum cleaner covers all areas of the floor.
Moreover, if you don’t want the vacuum to enter the children’s play area or pet area, you can create no-go zones using magnetic strips. These magnetic strips are stuck to the ground, cordoning off the place where the robot vacuum should avoid.
What Could’ve Been Better?
Despite having a long-lasting battery and larger bin, this product fell short when it came to communicating via the smartphone app. In one incident, the bot sent a false alarm to the app, and another time it got stuck in a corner on a medium pile carpet and had to be lifted manually.
- Logical navigation technology
- Larger debris collecting bin
- App and voice control
- Control movement with magnets
- Might get stuck in corners
8. Coredy R500+ Robot Vacuum Cleaner
One of the robot vacuums we came across was the R500 model by Coredy. If you are looking for a self-charging, remote-controlled, slim robot vacuum cleaner, this option might be interesting. Read on to know more about this model.
- 3-in-1 Sweep Vacuum Mop Robotic Vacuum Cleaner: R750 is a...
- Wet-Dry Mopping Function: R750 floor cleaner robot supports...
Why Did We Like It?
When we first saw this vacuum cleaner, we thought the 3-in-1 Sweep feature would be perfect for small to medium-sized rooms. This feature with the dual-edge brushes works equally well on carpet and hardwood to remove pet hair along with dirt and debris.
Also, its wet-dry mopping function makes it easy to sweep the dust, followed by mopping to refresh the floors, and finally suctioning the murky water. After mopping and drying, it automatically makes its way to the charging base in case of a low battery. Due to this, it’s always ready to use for the next trip, which can last around 120 minutes with a full battery.
Another thing we liked was the freedom to block a vacuuming zone with boundary stripes. This was possible by sectioning the area which needs cleaning and lining the boundary with magnetic tape. After this, the bot will not wander beyond the designated section.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 51VdNDWgZEL. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51VdNDWgZEL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
As far as the cleaning aspect is concerned, this product worked flawlessly; however, we did face some issues in its maintenance. The brushes attached to this vacuum are somewhat fragile and might get damaged on rough surfaces. However, it isn’t a deal-breaker because they can be replaced easily if they are under warranty.
- Dual anti-collision system
- Quiet cleaning feature
- Endurance vacuuming
- Automatic charging
- Brushes are not as durable
9. OKP K2
Another option we looked at was the K2 robot vacuum cleaner by the brand OKP. Apart from having easy controls via remote and smartphone, this product is also compact and self-charging. Thus, if ultra-convenience is what you are looking for, take a look at this option.
- 👩🏻🔬This OKP K2 robotic vacuum cleaner is for...
- 🤔Why OKP K2 no suction:Please make sure the robot is in...
Why Did We Like It?
The first thing we liked about this model was the robust suction technology with dual side brushes for efficient sweeping. When you switch to max vacuuming mode, the vacuum power increases to 1800 PA for deep cleaning.
Moreover, it has a 500 ml HEPA filter box which holds more than average dust and dirt without spilling. This box significantly reduces the frequency of emptying along with being easy to handle and cleanout. Speaking of easy cleaning, this small vacuum has a diameter of only 11- inches, making it easy to reach narrow areas for complete cleaning.
We wouldn’t like to carry around the bot to and for to each room, and surely you wouldn’t either. That’s why we appreciated the self-docking feature, where the robot vacuum cleaner automatically detects low battery and travels to the dock. Additionally, it comes with a complete accessory kit, including the HEPA filter box, charging dock, remote control, and dual side brushes.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 51o5076MnPS. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51o5076MnPS._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
Of all the options on this list, this robot vacuum falls in the smaller category. And while there are many benefits of a smaller machine, like reaching corners easily and fitting underneath couches to sweep, there is one drawback. The suction area of the vacuum is small, and so is the debris storage, which requires frequent cleaning.
- Alexa, Google voice commands
- Long battery life
- Removes dog hair
- Silent cleaning
- Smaller suction opening and storage area
10. ECOVACS OZMOT5
In our journey to find a robot vacuum that saves us time and energy, we came across the OZMOT5 model by the ECOVACS brand. This is another lightweight and sleek robot vacuum which can work with Amazon Alexa and Google assistant.
- Vacuum and Mop in One Go: Deebot T5 Powerful suction with...
- Smart laser navigation & multi-floor mapping: Precise laser...
Why Did We Like It?
Let’s start with the vacuum and mop abilities of this product. This bot has powerful suction with a 430 ml dust bin and a tank that holds 240 ml of water. With these two factors alone, it can clean the entire floor plan in one go.
Would you agree if we said that robots have the ability to learn? This vacuum cleaner does, in fact, memorize your floors and remember which areas to clean and which are already done. Not only that, but it also figures out areas which it collided into earlier and avoids them or approaches at a slow speed.
Furthermore, with a 5200 mAh capacity and optimized energy consumption, this device has long battery life. It can cover 3200 square feet of floor in one charge and climbs easily over low pile carpet. And as the battery becomes low, it sends an indicator to your smartphone app and automatically proceeds to the docking area.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 41zKYlsvgKL. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41zKYlsvgKL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
The robot vacuum turned out to be quite durable and covered a great range of flooring, so there weren’t any complaints there. But the instruction manual was missing. Not everyone is tech-savvy with the ability to understand the operations of this bot. Adding a manual would have made the product easier to use.
- Wi-Fi controlled voice commands
- Floor mapping ability
- Climbs low pile carpet
- More than 3 hours of run time
- No instruction manual
11. iHome Robotic Vacuum
Next, we have a vacuum cleaner with an intelligent home mapping system and floor detection ability. The Robotic Vacuum by iHome has even more features like voice and app control for automatic cleaning. This option is worth looking at if you want a smart yet budget-friendly robot vacuum.
- 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗨𝗨𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 &...
- 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘...
Why Did We Like It?
While searching for the best robot vacuum, we found a model by iHome which understood our floors within the first few days of use. This device gets familiar with the areas and systematically cleans them without missing a spot.
Apart from that, it has a hyperdrive technology which gives you three modes to choose from. The quiet mode is for nighttime cleaning or when the kids or pets are asleep. The normal mode is what you will use on a daily basis, and it cleans low pile carpet and hardwood floors. On the other hand, Hyperdrive mode has 2000 PA suction power and is perfect for deep cleaning.
Also, this device has a unique system called AutoVac Eclipse. What’s interesting about this feature is its ability to moderate vacuum settings according to the surface. There’s no need to worry about floor types because the bot can clean all kinds of surfaces- from carpet to tile, wood, and laminate.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 417QY0vCKqL. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/417QY0vCKqL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
Although this is an efficient vacuum at a reasonable price, there were a few shortfalls that we couldn’t ignore. The robot vacuum isn’t as sturdy as some of the others on the market; thus, it is prone to damage when it bumps into a hard wall. The one we tested out bumped into the closet and left puddles on the floor.
- Reasonably priced
- iHome cleaning app
- Removes pet hair
- Powermop enabled
- Not as durable
12. Yeedi Robot Vacuum
This is one option you should surely look at if you want hands-free cleaning all days of the month. This product by Yeedi is genuinely a start and forget machine. It has all its functions from A to Z automated- charging, recharging, docking, cleaning, mopping, and storing. Read on to find out the details of this bot.
- 【30-Day Hands-Free Cleaning】yeedi vac station sucks dirt...
- 【Vacuum & Mop Simultaneously】yeedi vac station is...
Why Did We Like It?
We have seen several robot vacuums, and this was one of the few which came with a separate dustbin. This product claims to give you a 30-day hands-free cleaning experience in which you won’t have to monitor the device regularly. We would say these claims were quite accurate because this device automatically transfers the dirt to the dustbin without needing any intervention.
Moreover, this might be the best robot vacuum for the daily cleaning of a big house. We say this because the device is versatile enough to vacuum and mop floors at the same time. This results in spotless floors within minutes. Another reason behind its efficiency is its powerful suction at 3000 PA, which picks up crumbs and pet hair.
Apart from this, one more feature managed to impress us. Its limitless app control comes in handy for assigning specific rooms for cleaning, scheduling a time, or setting up a virtual boundary.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 413B7y5msVS. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/413B7y5msVS._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
This huge bin and the 30-day hands-free cleaning comes at a cost. The bin is quite bulky and takes up a lot of storage. If you plan to dock the machine in the living room or a small room, this is something to consider.
- Self-emptying base
- Alexa and Google Assistant voice control
- Climbs on low pile carpets
- Long battery life
- Bulky dust bin
13. Proscenic 850T
Next on our list is a robot vacuum by Proscenic 850T device, which connects to W-Fi through its dedicated app. You can speak to this device using Alexa or Google assistant and make cleaning plans, change cleaning modes, start or stop cleaning, all using voice or remote control.
- 【Easy control】With Alexa and Google Home (Skill Name:...
- 【3000Pa strong suction power】The Proscenic 850T robot...
Why Did We Like It?
First of all, this is one solid option if you are looking for a robot vacuum with an intelligent cleaning system that does it all. This device has a 3-in-1 function with its 500 ml dust container and separate water tank, making a vacuum and mop function possible at the same time. If you want to adjust the water levels, just give the command through the app.
Furthermore, quick cleaning isn’t a problem because the strong suction can pull up dust, pet hair, and trash over hardwood floors and carpets. Speaking of carpets, some vacuums don’t have big enough wheels to roll above half an inch, but this one climbs medium pile carpet easily.
Apart from that, we liked the V-boost carpet detection feature and the inclusion of magnetic tapes. The V-boost system recognizes the surface of carpets and automatically increases the suction to the maximum in order to clean thoroughly. And the magnetic tapes are helpful if you want to prevent the bot from leaving the room.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 51fcSabR7mL. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51fcSabR7mL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
While this product was durable and made for a solid cleaning option, there was a mishap we’d like to point out. After a while of use, the battery started to drain quickly, and ultimately it ended up lasting for only 50 minutes at a time. Apart from that, it worked smoothly overall.
- Vacuum and mop together
- Magnetic tape to block no-go zones
- Wi-Fi compatible
- Automatic charging
- Unreliable battery
14. Kenmore Robot Vacuum Cleaner
This vacuum cleaner by Kenmore has an excellent battery life which lasts for over 120 minutes. It is also self-charging, meaning it returns to the charging dock whenever the battery runs low. This would make a good robot vacuum cleaner for regular use on carpet and hardwood floors.
- 【Up To 120 Minutes Of Runtime】With a excellent battery...
- 【1800 Pa Power Suction & 3 Speed Control】Smart robot...
Why Did We Like It?
Of all the robot vacuums we tested, this product was one of the few which provided all the latest features at a budget-friendly price. That being said, we liked the innovative suction feature, which has 3-speed controls for various uses. You can adjust the settings accordingly, whether it’s a regular sweeping or a festive time deep clean.
Besides this, it has 4 cleaning modes that can be selected with voice and app controls. Simply connect to Alexa and Google assistant and choose a mode or schedule your timings. For a seamless cleaning experience, you can select between auto, spot, edge, and manual mode for different functions. For example, spot cleaning mode will hover over a problematic area and clean it twice as long.
Another feature we liked was the intelligent navigation feature which maneuvers in an efficient linear cleaning pattern. Apart from not missing any areas, it also doesn’t collide with furniture or fall off stairs.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide] 413viBX4URL. SL500](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/413viBX4URL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
While we were pleasantly surprised at the excellent value for money deal with this product, a few things could be improved. At first, when we tried it out, it had a long battery life of more than 2 hours, but after that, the bot died without returning to the docking area for charging.
- Transitions over medium pile carpet
- 1-year warranty
- Anti-cliff sensors
- Alexa and Google Assistant commands
- Didn’t detect low battery
15. WYZE Root Vacuum Cleaner
Another robot vacuum we checked was a lightweight model by WYZE. This vacuum has a robust system to create an efficient, logical, and straight-line cleaning path for different rooms. Read on to know more about this time and energy-saving device.

Why Did We Like It?
First of all, we liked the advanced custom cleaning technology. The app can be used to customize specific days and times for cleaning, select rooms for particular times of the day, and even start impromptu cleaning whenever you want. You can connect it to Wi-Fi, track the robot vacuum on the app like a video game, and watch its progress across your floor plan.
Another thing we liked was the ease with which this bot moved across all surfaces, whether it’s hardwood floors, tile, or even carpet. It can climb across 0.8-inch of a low pile carpet and clean across bumps along the path if any.
Furthermore, it has a decent battery life of 110 minutes in standard mode and lightning-fast mapping technology. To add to that, when the robot vacuum is turned on, it spins 6 times in one second and measures over 2000 points of the room to create an accurate map.
![15 Best Robot Vacuums Under $300 [2022 Buyer's Guide]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/417KYvxYpKL._SL500_.jpg)
What Could’ve Been Better?
While the cleaning aspect of this robot vacuum couldn’t be better, we wished a few issues were resolved for optimal cleaning experience. Sometimes the sensor didn’t detect the edge of the floor and dashed into the baseboards. Other times, it avoided 3 inches around the desk which left it unclean.
- Builds map of the room
- Faster cleaning
- Self-docking and charging
- Customize cleaning
- Inconsistent sensors
Robot Vacuums Under $300 Buying Guide
We have put together a guide to help you find out which features matter the most. These two sections will help lay out the essential things to consider before purchasing a vacuum and how to figure out the right model for you.
Things To Consider Before Buying A Robot Vacuum
-
Your Purpose
Everyone values their downtime. And, neglecting boring taskings like mopping and vacuuming is understandable. That’s why we prefer robot vacuums over regular ones because they free you of the daunting task of daily cleaning. You might need one if you have kids or pets who leave dirty floors daily.
If you have a job that leaves you little time to rest, such a device can be a lifesaver. Even if you work longer hours, the robot vacuum cleans up at the time you schedule it (so you don’t have to.) Maybe you or a family member has a dust allergy and needs a dust-free home at all times. With the help of a bot, you can clean twice a day without moving a muscle.
-
Size Of Your Home
Before you go and browse for vacuum models online, one important factor to check for is the size of your house and rooms. Robot vacuums are built with the ability to cover a particular square feet area. Some smaller models cover around 1500 to 2000 square feet, and they most likely also have shorter battery life.
The larger robot vacuums can cover anywhere from 2000 to 3200 square feet with a single charge, which is why they have longer battery life and bigger dustbins. Check the specifications to select one which can manage to cover your floor area without requiring frequent recharging.
-
Type Of Floor
One thing you need to determine in your house is the kind of flooring most rooms have. Are they hardwood, tile, laminate, or carpet? If they are carpet, then you need to check the thickness and thread size. On average, robot vacuums can climb low pile carpet of around 0.8 inches, but anything higher will need a vacuum with bigger wheels.
Also, if the carpet threads are too thick, the vacuum will find it challenging to glide over it and get stuck often. Keep in mind that many robot vacuums may not be able to climb thick rugs with long threads.
-
Pets
Any pet parent will know the amount of work that goes into maintaining a healthy cat or dog as well as keeping the home clean. The frequency of cleaning doubles if the pet has long fur which sheds around the house.
Since many brands have considered this while building their models, it is one less worry for pet owners to collect and sweep fur from all over the house. But you’ll have to care for the robot as the wheels or brushes may get damaged over frequent use. Also, it goes without saying that any vacuum will not remove fur from furniture and couches.
-
Vacuum Or Mop?
Robot vacuums these days have hybrid features, 2-in-1 benefits in other words. An example of this is a vacuum with a mopping feature. These products contain a water tank that releases water while cleaning and brushes the floors till they sparkle. However, there are a few drawbacks to this type of robot vacuum.
Firstly, they are costlier, and there is debate over their efficiency. Some users felt these products worked well enough, and others claimed it’s best not to mix these two purposes. Another kind of hybrid is the one that works on all kinds of floors, whether it’s hardwood or carpet. Needless to say, both surfaces need very different cleaning treatments.
-
Frequency Of Use
Some may argue that robot cleaners are not a substitute for regular cleaners, and it might be true for extensive cleaning. However, most good-quality robot vacuums can handle daily cleaning and the occasional mess-ups.
As we mentioned earlier, a person with dust allergies will probably need to use the robot vac twice a day to reduce reactions. Same way, a house with messy pets or kids will require vacuuming more often than, say, a house of two working adults. If you plan to use the vacuum more than once a day, check for durability and large battery capacity in the device.
-
App
Before you purchase, consider if connecting the vacuum with your app is going to help you. Most people find the option of scheduling cleaning times convenient for regular use. It saves the time required to turn the machine on and off every day.
Also, the apps give extra features like mapping out the floor and creating no-go zones to restrict entry. However, you can skip this feature if you are not tech-savvy and don’t care much for constant notifications.
-
Efficiency
Some models are created for a specific purpose, and they can be used only for hardwood floors or exclusively for carpets. While most products are made for regular cleaning for daily use, many others specialize in deep cleaning.
Moreover, some vacuums have a higher suction power than others and can collect pet hair and larger particles like crumbs. Most robotic cleaning devices come with two or three modes of suction power and different modes. There are even some models which automatically change the suction power by intelligent deduction, so be sure to check them out.
-
Budget
Robot vacuums come at a starting range of around $200, and recent advanced ones can reach up to $1000. Most of the options fall somewhere in between this range. If you are willing to stretch your budget, there are dozens of models which give premium features like Wi-Fi, voice control, and floor mapping.
However, if you need a basic robot vacuum that can be controlled with remote control, there are good quality ones available at a reasonable price.
Things To Look For In A Robot Vacuum
-
Cleaning Modes
Cleaning modes vary according to brand and model, but most of them are concerned with the speed and suction power of the device. Usually, you will find three modes – low, auto, and maximum, which is one fundamental thing you should look for. You can give a voice command or remote control to change these settings for specific requirements.
One such special mode is “Quiet mode.” These quiet modes are for those Sunday afternoon cleaning sessions when you don’t want to be disturbed during your mid-day nap. Another mode is the low suction mode for regular cleaning of small particles like dust, or spot mode focuses on one particular area for spills. All of these are extra modes that you can look for apart from the basics.
-
Controls
We spoke about automatic mode earlier on, and this is one of the main reasons anyone ever purchases a robot vacuum. After all, the whole point of a robot is to reduce human effort. Coming back to automatic mode, this feature can be activated by remote control or the app to clean on a schedule.
Later on, even if you aren’t at home, the device wakes up at the exact time you’ve selected and begins vacuuming. The high-end models have come up with advanced controls like voice commands using Alexa and Google Assistant.
-
Size Of Vacuum
Why should the dimension of the vacuum matter? You might be under the impression that all robot vacuums of different sizes and weights work exactly the same. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
First of all, larger-sized vacuums won’t fit in tight corners or beneath low furniture. Secondly, if the height is considerably more, it will get stuck in places and require you to free it manually. Generally, people go for smaller-sized vacuums for tiny houses. But most robot vacuums are usually 13 inches in diameter and 3 inches in height, but of course, this varies with brand and model type.
-
Wi-Fi
You can select a vacuum with this Wi-Fi feature for additional control. Wi-Fi-enabled vacuums can be controlled via mobile phones and the apps that come with the bots. The benefit is that you do not need to search for a separate remote control; open the app on your smartphone to give instructions.
Moreover, these apps can reflect details like cleaning history for the past few weeks, problematic areas, and the number of hours used. If you want to explore this option with a smaller floor plan, you are free to do so; however, we think a bigger house will find many uses for this feature.
-
Battery Life
Another essential factor you need to consider is the battery life. You need to know how long the device will run after one round of charging. Typically, this isn’t an issue because most robot vacuums we came across easily cleaned the floor with a single charging.
However, over time, the battery becomes slightly smaller giving lesser and lesser run time. And when this happens, the battery might die out and sit there until you manually pick it up. Or it can run out of charge before it finds its way back to the charging and resting dock.
Either way, since most of them last 1.5 to 2 hours, you don’t need to put much thought into this unless you have a huge floor plan.
Mid-range to high-end products use laser and optical sensors for several reasons. They point laser points across the room and create a floor map.
Cheaper models might not have the most accurate sensors leading to incomplete cleaning of floors, bumping against walls and furniture, and damaging baseboards.
-
Boundary Blockers
Some people might have fragile items in certain rooms which they don’t want the bot to hit. If you are one of these people, a magnetic boundary blocker is the right add-on for you. Essentially, you mark the boundary of a room by taping the magnetic lockers on the floor. When the robot approaches the tape, it automatically understands not to cross it, thus leaving your no-go zones safe from the bot.
Also, this feature will come in handy for marking off children’s bedrooms, and it can also be marked to stay away from pet beds.
Verdict
In our quest to find the best robot vacuum, we came across 15 impressive models, which we decided to list out for you.
Out of these great options, we liked the R694020 model by iRobot. Along with being a lightweight device, it provided a great deal of cleaning features for hardwood floors and carpets. It was a budget-friendly, durable, and well-rounded vacuum for daily use. Eufy RoboVac 11S was another favorite for its boost cleaning technology, quiet mode, and durability.
We hope our guide was informative and it helped you pick the right robot vacuum for your home.
Till next time. See you later!
