Installed at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Baitogogo represents an intriguing, intricated, organic and architectural tangle of wooden beams meant to transform the interior space.
The artist, Henrique Oliveira starts by revealing the building’s structure and plays with it, converting it into something unique and beautiful. His inspiration comes from studies of physical pathologies and medical books and this is visible in the way he chooses to express his ideas and exhibitions, if we can call them an exhibit. The dimension of the space changes throughout his touch, becoming more alive. And the contrast between the rigid, calculated original structure of the existing building and the new-“grown” organic installation is just plainly beautiful.
This large piece of art was created from tapumes, reclaimed ones, a wood used traditionally in Brazil for creating the hoardings around construction sites and the artist gathered the pieces himself from the streets of São Paulo, where he lives and works.Talking about creating art with your bare hands!
